I am thinking he is going to the KHL as well. But I guess he got traded to the Devils just now.

Kovalchuk was one of the KHL's biggest critics before Cheraponov died. Can't see him changing his tune after that.

If this is true, "We also met his desire to be the highest paid player based on average annual salary" then let him go to the KHL in the offseason. Who the fuck does he think he is? He isn't worth a max cap hit while inflating league wide salaries that much more.

NJ still isn't the best team in the East.

EDIT: Tedenby rumored going back. I wouldn't.

Kovalchuk will not work in the NJ system. this was a stupid trade by the devils if true. do they really think he will buy into the D first system?

as for him being a douchebag, he spent 8 years in ATL and the managment has shown year after year that they are one of the worst in the league. the team cant draft worth a shit, traded away propects for their ONE playoff run which set the team back some years. who cares what they offered him? what does he owe them?

I wasn't so much referring to any sort of obligation that Kovy should feel towards Atlanta but more that if one of his demands for a new contact is really to be the highest paid player in the league then he's out of his mind.

The league is already headed down the road to financial trouble again, stupid shit like this annoys me.

i don't think he's a douchebag for walking out on atlanta. i would too.

i just don't think it was nice of him to say he wants to stay a thrasher, and then turn down two insanely lucrative deals. i don't see what team is going to want to pay him that much money, or CAN afford to pay him that much money besides the thrashers, or other teams that will be devoid of a star player. if he wants his payday, i don't think he is going to get it from a team much better than the thrashers. if he wants to go to the playoffs and play on a good team, he is not going to get ovechkin money. i'm interested to see how this plays out.

Something tells me they won't make it past the second round

The most important questions we should be asking is: will this affect my fantasy team?

So NJ has won one game out of four since they got Kovalchuk and that was barely and against the Maple Leafs. He has 0 goals and I think has a - rating with them so far.

NHL.com says he's a -2 after 4 games with NJ. That shouldn't be surprising, since for his NHL career he's a -86, and he's never finished an NHL season with a positive +/- rating. I wouldn't want him on the Sabres even if he cost half of what he does, he isn't capable of playing defense and he's greedy with the puck. Neither of those qualities would be good on this team, and Lindy Ruff would go apeshit trying to get him to play within his system.

I definitely think that we can judge the Kovalchuk trade after four games. He hasn't scored a goal yet? What a huge mistake!
